This double portrait provided an experiment for me both conceptually as well as technically. An casein under-painting was followed by glazes of oil paint and finished with colored pencil for texture and detail. The subject explores Korean motifs and prominently features a double portrait of my friend, Alex. One portrait painted opaquely, and the other transparent, as if viewed in a dream. The clouds behind the subject, reminiscent of traditional ink paintings, serve as a visual metaphor for title, “Cultural Dreams”. This painting is the first in a personal series exploring cultural connection and identity.
